Aluminum Carports Tampa Bay

Florida has no shortage of sun, storms, and salty air. And no shortage of driveways with nowhere to put a car. If your home or business lacks covered parking, a custom aluminum carport from West Coast Awnings gives your vehicle, boat, or RV real protection without the cost or permanence of a full garage addition.

We've been building and installing custom aluminum structures across Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and the surrounding communities since 1957. Every carport we build is designed for your property, engineered to the Florida Building Code, and installed by our own licensed crew, never subcontractors.

What We Build

West Coast Awnings fabricates and installs three types of aluminum carport structures. During your free estimate, we’ll walk through which option works best for your property layout, setbacks, and HOA requirements, if applicable.

Attached Carports

Bolted directly to your existing fascia or roofline, an attached carport creates a seamless extension of your home’s architecture. It’s the most popular choice for residential properties where the driveway runs alongside the house. The finished structure looks like it was always part of the building, not an afterthought.

Freestanding Carports

Built on concrete footings with independent posts, a freestanding carport works anywhere on your property: beside the garage, along a side yard, or at the rear of a lot. It’s the right choice when attachment to the structure isn’t possible or when you’re covering a boat, RV, or secondary vehicle away from the main building.

Commercial Covered Parking

We engineer multi-bay structures for apartment complexes, retail properties, office buildings, and municipal facilities. Commercial projects are quoted individually based on span, loading requirements, and local permitting needs.

The Foam Core Difference

Most carport suppliers sell single-skin aluminum pans: a single sheet of metal between you and the Florida sun. We build with foam core insulated panels: two aluminum skins bonded to a high-density foam core in between. The difference in performance is substantial.

Foam Core (West Coast Awnings)

Standard Single-Skin

Heat reduction

Up to 25–30°F cooler underneath

Minimal. Metal conducts heat directly.

Rain noise

Significantly dampened

Loud. Rain amplifies on single skin.

Condensation/dripping

None. The insulated barrier prevents it.

Common in humid FL conditions

Structural rigidity

Rigid panel sandwich construction

Can flex and rattle over time

Hurricane resistance

FL Building Code engineered

Varies. Many are not FL-code rated.

The foam core construction also means your carport won’t sound like a snare drum every time it rains, a detail Tampa Bay homeowners quickly come to appreciate.

If you would like to see a visual comparison of how foam core panels are constructed, you can view the breakdown here.

We worked with Jimmy from West Coast Awnings and would highly recommend him and this company for awnings. He was friendly, knowledgeable and easy to work with. The production was on time and the installation came out great. We went with a decorative black metal awning to coordinate with our black metal roof. Thank you again for a great experience!

Our experience with West Coast Awnings of Clearwater was excellent. From our salesman, Jimmy, who made 2 housecalls, to the engineer who came and scoped out the job, and finally the installation team, Damien and Ken, everyone was friendly, professional and efficient. Damien explained how to work the awning and answered all my questions. I highly recommend West Coast Awnings of Clearwater!

Robert & Zach recently installed a retractable awning in our backyard. They did a great job. They got the job done in just a couple hours; they were super nice and accommodating; and they cleaned everything up before they left. We also got lots of good tips for efficient use and care of the awning. Great job, guys!

Very happy with the awning installation on our balcony. We thought it could not be done because a gutter was in the way, but Zach and Roberto made it happen. Thanks to Jimmy, too, who delivered earlier than expected. Great service.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an aluminum carport cost in Tampa Bay?

A standard single-car attached carport starts around $6,500 for a 16 ft wide × 10 ft projection configuration. Larger, freestanding, or commercial structures are priced individually based on size, site conditions, and permitting complexity. We provide free, no-obligation estimates. An attached carport anchors directly to your home’s fascia or roofline, creating a seamless addition that looks like part of the original structure. A freestanding carport is supported by its own posts set in concrete footings and can be placed anywhere on your property. We’ll recommend the right option during your estimate based on your layout, setbacks, and HOA rules if applicable.

Most residential carports are installed in a single day, depending on complexity and whether or not concrete footings are required.

Yes. West Coast Awnings regularly works with HOA communities throughout Tampa Bay and can help you navigate the approval process. We provide the drawings, material specifications, color samples, and contractor credentials your HOA’s architectural review committee will typically request. HOA approval timelines vary. Most boards review applications within 30 to 45 days, so we recommend starting that process early. We’ll guide you through it step by step.

Yes. All structures are engineered to meet or exceed Florida Building Code wind load requirements for your specific hurricane wind zone in Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco counties. Our panels carry Florida Product Approvals and every permit application includes stamped engineering drawings.

A carport is primarily designed for vehicle parking and sits over a driveway or hardscape. A patio cover is typically attached to the rear of a home and covers an outdoor living area. We build both using the same foam-core insulated panel system. The structural approach is similar, but the design, dimensions, and placement differ. Not sure which you need? We will sort it out during your free estimate.

Yes. Our structures are compatible with retractable screen systems, and electrical can be added by any licensed electrician after installation. Many clients add overhead lighting at the time of installation. Just let us know during the design phase.

Standard colors are White, Ivory, Beige, and Bronze, all factory powder-coated. We bring physical color samples to every estimate appointment so you can compare them against your home or building exterior before committing.
