Recently, we had the priveledge to help out our manatee friends at the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa.  The David A. Straz Manatee Hospital rehabilitates manatees that are injured by boats or other natural causes.  They asked us to help shade their manatees with a 90 percent block screen in order let their injuries heal quicker, and keep them cool and comfortable.  The Phiphertex Plus shade screen was laced to the existing 20 to 22 foot frames. The first tank was only half covered with a screen as there is a big oak tree covering the other half.  This is also where the visitors to the zoo are able to observe the manatees at the hospital.  The two full shade screens have a cantilevered frame so that they hinge at the midpoint of the circle in order to allow access to the manatees from above.   We used Tenara thread on all the seams so they should stand up to the harsh direct sun.

Drop Curtains or Screens - Palm Harbor, FL

Looking for shade from the harsh Florida sun, but don't want to lose your view?  We have several options to meet your needs.  Phantom retractable screens, drop screens, and drop curtains with a clear window panel are all suitable options depending on your personal taste.  Last month we had the chance to install some shade screens in Palm Harbor, FLSolar screens are identical to drop curtains, which are made from acrylic (Sunbrella) or vinyl fabrics, but as you may assume they are made from screen.  This is not the same screen you see on your pool enclosure.  This high grade solar screen comes in a variety of colors and degrees/percentages of blockage from the sun.  You can chose the level of block depending on how much sun you want to block versus how much view or privacy you are looking to maintain.  They are great for porches or balconies, or whatever the application.  This particular job kept the sun off some french doors on a second story balcony.

Phantom Retractable Screens - Oldsmar, FL

We recently had the opportunity to install a Phantom Executive retractable screen in Oldsmar, FL (That's just West of Tampa in Pinellas County).  Our customer was not able to enjoy her outside seating area on her patio due to the intense sun and glare she was experiencing.  One of her favorite pass-times is reading out in the fresh air, but she was unable to read her book due to the glare and heat from her western exposure.  In order to solve that problem, a Phantom retractable shade screen was installed between two aluminum pillars on her patio.  She chose a white cassette to blend in seamlessly with the rest of her pool enclosure.  In order to provide solar shade in additiona to insect protection, she went with a 90% block solar screen in a charcoal color, which as the name suggests, blocks ninety percent of the sun.  This sun screen will provide cooling shade while still maintaining her view and airflow.  Phantom Executive screens are motorized so you have the choice of shade or sun at the touch of a button.  We are finding that customers all over Hillsborough and Pinellas county are catching on to what these retractable screens have to offer.  Here are some photos of one in action.
